Lithuania? Sure, why not?

Terri was a little thrown by the idea of visiting Lithuania, she had just shot down our going to Russia. She did some research and agreed: Lithuania should be on our list.

Sometimes first impressions are a bit scary. Our Lithuanian Airbnb was that way:

The entrance to our Lithuanian Airbnb, not overly inviting

We were on the top floor of the apartment complex, no elevators – good thing we had backpacks!

The living room was really cute and the host had left us champagne, snacks, coffee and fruit! We were very comfortable.
Our bedroom with access through the window to a small patio. We didn’t use it much as the temperature was in the 50’s.🥶We do like the quirky!😳

We had arrived in Vilnius a little after 5pm and after settling in it was time to find dinner, relax with a libation and write in our blog.

I found a local bar, with great ratings, aptly named, “The Local Bar.” The bars in Europe almost always have good food and a family atmosphere. In this one, we met Matteo, a local boy about 5, who was riding his bike throughout the bar despite his mother’s continual admonishments.

The Vilnius Cathedral and bell tower. It’s much bigger & taller than it looks.

We were covering all of the typical sightseeing spots and ventured into the bell tower at The Vilnius Cathedral. As we climbed to the top, with no other visitors around, one of the bells rang for it was the one o’clock hour. Upon exiting, I asked the docent if the other bells were rung as well, (there were 8 bells in total). She told us that the 5pm ringing was especially nice. We decided to come back for it. We had lunch and meandered Vilnius old town for a few hours. It was worth it!

Wait for it…..

Another unexpected high-light of Vilnius was the money museum. It presented a history from inception to current day. Terri was especially intrigued by the one hundred trillion dollar note issued by the country of Zimbabwe. Terri had a lot of questions that I had no answers for.

Note to self: keep a closer eye on Terri….
The angel of Uzupis

Uzupis is a self-declared sovereign artsy/hippie/foodie community. They have their own immigration department, one guy that wanders the community (sometimes) and offers to stamp your passport. This has created real problems for people as you need to have him stamp it twice, once to enter and again to exit. We never saw him.

Uzupis the Holy Hand. No Bribes, No corruption.
The Uzupis Constitution. Good sentiments to live by. There were 41 of these large metal plaques lining the street, each a different language.
Terri liked this picture in Uzupis.
I had to sit in the corner, again. Just for fun.

  1. Ha Ha Ha! Loved this. Does that mean we could emigrate there??? (nice to feel like there is an escape hatch… things being what they are here in the “united” states) Did you see any bats? (in the belfry) Miss you crazies!

  2. Yes, you need to keep an eye on Terri. You never know what is next for that girl. I want to see her hanging from a tree like a little monkey🙈🙊🙉🐒. Love the pics and cool VRBO.

  3. I actually have a friend in Vilnius, no kidding, Sarunus (he’s a roofer). He was picked up wandering in Northern Baja with little water by my next door RV neighbor at the campground. We ate a lot of omelets and share an affinity for dark beer. He learned to ride a One Wheel and would go on 7 mile rides. Now I know he was just normal for Vilnius. Nice pic Terri took of you peeing in that fountain. I applaud your stream pressure!
