A brief stop in Milan…

We were working our way north and needed a quick stop somewhere in northern Italy; Milan seemed like a good choice.

We arrived in Milan by train and got on the metro to a stop near our Airbnb. Our local host was waiting for us outside; Stella was an exuberant woman that seemed overjoyed to see us. But, she had bad news: the water pipe to the apartment complex had burst that morning and although workmen were feverishly trying to restore the water supplies, there were no guarantees.

Stella offered to find us other accommodations but we explained that we understood and would wait until evening to see if we had water restored. Stella’s apartment was beautifully decorated and centrally located, (plus she provided us with beer and snacks😃). We dropped our backpacks and immediately headed out to explore Milan.

First stop: Castle Sforzesco located in a busy city park about a mile from our new home. We explored both the castle and the busy park. It was a warm day in Milan and the Milanese were definitely taking advantage of it with multiple pick-up soccer games and amateur music artists.

When we returned home the water was on! Yes! Showers and laundry!

Day 2: we toured the Duomo, a 582 year project with over 3400 statues. It is really amazing.

The Duomo & Terri

The shopping mall next to the Duomo. Luckily no room in our backpacks to shop in these high end stores.
Milanese style pizza, so good! Enough for breakfast the next day too.

  1. Ok, so Italy has better castles & cathedrals with priceless art & pizza & fountains & public transportation, yada yada. But we know you gotta come home eventually (thanks to all those cute grandkiddos!)
