Dubrovnik is a city built on a hillside. The old town is completely inside the fortress at the edge of the bay below the “newer” part of the city. We walked the 340 stairs to old town – yes – Terri counted them. Old town is beautiful with it’s meandering pedestrian -only passageways, many plazas with outdoor cafes and the great fortress wall that surrounds it.
Our apartment, besides being 340 stairs from old town, was a bit quirky. We did have a private bathroom it was just not attached directly to our room but was down a short hallway-not the most convenient after rehydrating (beer ๐บ) from the walk home. It did have a balcony with a great view of the old city and our host was wonderful, keeping us well supplied with refreshments and snacks.
We woke early and walked the entire wall of the fortress that surrounds the old city, more stairs and low ceilinged passageways but well worth it.
We decided to drive to the high cliff-edge overlook. As usual, I was doing the driving and Terri/Google was doing the navigating, never a dull moment. Again, Google may have taken us on the shortest route but Terri was white-knuckling most of the way,๐. The drive reminded me of Highway 1 to Big Sur: if it was one-lane, had no guardrails and needed maintenance badly! For the return trip I followed a Taxi on a completely different road: faster, shorter and safer, thanks again Google!๐ก

Yeah Candy, like The Middle East or North Korea? They could change the naming style of their
travel logs to reflect the different mood… something like Pyongyang Internment or Dear Leader Devout Detention. Seriously though they’ll think of something-hey… Alaska in RV’s? Ride the Ferry up? I’d be in for that one.
