Barcelona!

This was our second trip to Barcelona, our first was a quick trip a few years ago after sailing around Majorca, so we already new that we liked the city. We wanted to be near Las Ramblas and had booked a hotel for the 3 nights. The hotel room was much smaller than our typical Airbnb accommodations and it didn’t have a kitchen but it was great to have a pool. Well, it looked like a pool on their website but it was more of a big cold spa than a pool, refreshing none the less.

We have grown accustomed to getting up later and going to bed later which meant we had a late morning start. By the time we got to La Sagrada Familia there was a long line that we immediately stepped into. After a short while we saw a ticket booth with hardly anyone in line, “hmmm, I wonder if we are in the right line?” Terri got out of line and discovered we were in line for the ” Big Red Bus!” Oops! Anyways, there was no one in the ticket line as the tickets were already sold out for that day so we had to purchase tickets for the next day. I don’t remember them selling tickets by time slot but it worked really well. We love La Sagrada Familia.

We walked to Park Guell, another Gaudi design, and thoroughly enjoyed walking the gardens and elaborate pathways surrounding Gaudi’s unique architectural homes/buildings. Our walking for the day: almost 10 miles!

One of the tings we were looking forward to most in Barcelona was the tapas bars. I had already researched and found a highly rated one near our hotel and it was a great choice. There are platters of tapas, some with a normal toothpick, 1€, and some with a fancy toothpick, 1.8€. You take and eat what you want and they do a toothpick count at the end to determine your bill. It was fun and delicious and we enjoyed everything that we tried.

Next stop: Montpellier

  1. Hey we went to those places! The cathedral and Gaudi and park. And we opted for paella but your tapas look yummmmm! (except the sausage one 😕). Really liked Barcelona (for a city) esp Las Ramblas – lots of art. Are you guys watching the news & Florence?

  2. Bar’th’elona?? That was where Olivia’s Spanish teacher was from. The ‘th’ on everything made me feel drunk. Those buildings are crazy…in a good way!
