Masks? What masks? We really don’t need masks?

Having been wearing our medical masks for a l-o-n-g time, it was immediately apparent that outside the Copenhagen (CPH) airport, No one was wearing a mask.

We soon learned that CPH had dropped all Covid related compliance measures back in June!?! This was mainly in response to the 76% vaccination rate and rapidly dropping infection rate. It was great to experience the “normal” life that we have missed back home for so long. If we could only get our vaccination rate to this level….

One of our favorite experiences in CPH was visiting a local pub near our Airbnb. Having ridden our bikes past the bustling Amager Grill & Bar, we decided a pre-dinner libation was in order. Immediately upon entering the “locals” bar, we felt a little out of place as it was fairly crowded and rambunctious. There were two vacant seats at the bar and as we worked our way in that direction, a large Danish gentleman cleared the final path to the seats. He immediately began asking the typical questions knowing that we were foreigners. He explained that the local soccer team, Football Club of Kobenhavn or FCK, was hosting a rival at the stadium in town. Those joining us were the unfortunate souls who could not get tickets but now found themselves with additional money for the bar.

We were soon joined by another man and his young son (about 10) who were Icelandic and somewhat agitated over their team being behind. Most of the patrons were supporting the local team with jerseys emblazoned with player‘s names and FCK. Even the young Icelandic boy wore a jacket that had a continuous stream of FCK, however, on second look, there was a U included in the stream of letters. His Dad pointed out that he thought that was a English word, I told him I thought it was also.

We seldom found ourselves without someone new to talk too, it was such a delight to visit and meet new people again.

Having finished our drinks and decided that the Lebanese restaurant down the street was our next stop, I asked for our bar tab only to be told that it had been “taken care of.” The Danish gentleman that had cleared our way had covered our tab. We found him in the smoking area of the bar and thanked him greatly for his hospitality. He suggested that we “Pay it forward” when we meet another Dane while traveling, Done!

We rode our bikes all three days and covered many of the city sights, here are some photos showing just a few of those sights:

Rosenberg castle and the botanical gardens
We are not sure what this is…

The Little Mermaid

The changing of the guard at Amalienborg Palace
Sunny and cool.
Our Airbnb was the 5th floor, no elevator🤣
